Rainy day and sand dunes~Scenic Sunday 020710 and That's My World 020910

It was raining here again yesterday. That's okay. We SHOULD have a beautiful wildflower season next month, after our 4 inches of rain in January and another dose today! In the meantime, I headed out yesterday morning with my camera down to Bermuda Dunes. There is one street with a huge sand dune and I often stop there. The wind had made ripples in it and the rain settled the ripples even more. Unfortunately some people have driven up the dune and have ruined it, but there were still some pristine places. Computer problems

Well, it appears my desktop computer has finally bitten the dust. I don't even remember how old it was...it won't boot up at all. So, next week, it goes into the shop and all my photos will go onto an external hard drive and I will be computerless. Hmmmm....I will try to get out and around this weekend for some photos, but rain is forecast and I'm not sure what I'll get. Next weekend is a 4 day weekend for me, so hubby and I are heading up to the eastern Sierras for 3 days. YEAH! Thanks for stopping by and I'll update when I can.

Jackrabbit~That's My World February 2, 2010

Last week I grabbed my camera and went looking for a spot to take some photos of the sunrise. I had about 15 minutes before work. I headed to one of my favorite photo spots, parked my car, and looked at the sunrise. SOMEBODY was looking at me! If you click on the photo, you can see the large jackrabbit, who was standing on his back legs! Apparently I nearly stepped on his mate because the bushes next to my feet began to rattle and another one took off! Actually, they BOTH took off running! Phew! I'm glad it was only a jackrabbit! I took a drive up to our local mountains on one of the days it was snowing up there. I stopped to view some of the cacti during the snow storm. I'm always intrigued by cacti and snow! The snow lasted for a couple of days and now it is all gone. The higher elevations still have their snow, however. Cactus Monday for February 1, 2010.

Textures~Desert after the storm~Sunday Stills Challenge 013110

This week's challenge really IS a challenge! I went through some of my archived photos and, after finding so many pictures which could fit this challenge, I finally settled on these. I took these the week before last, right after a break in our five days of rain. It was a beautiful and unique time to venture out and around our desert southwest. The plants smelled of rain and wet earth. The creosote smelled...well, of creosote! Water drops were clinging to the smoke tree branches, and even the cholla was wet. Cattle Egrets~Camera Critters for 013010

As I was driving to school yesterday, I spotted something white go flying by and I stopped at an overpass to take a look. There wasn't much room and the big semis were flying by, on their way to be loaded with vegetables. There was a flock of cattle egrets in the trees in the wash near my school. Cattle egrets are very common here in our desert southwest. They love the farms and I frequently see them out in the fields. But, this flock had decided to land in the wash and many of them were perched up in the trees. Camera Critters for January 30, 2010.

Snow and wind~After the Storm~SkyWatch Friday 012910

I went driving early Sunday morning, after our 5 days of rain and snow in the mountains last week. Those mountains are up by Joshua Tree National Park. The higher elevations there sometimes get snow. I wish we could have driven up there, but we had problems at home with our Edison lines and decided to call Edison and report the problem and stay home. So, while hubby sat home and rerouted extension cords to power up his laptop, I ventured out. The wind was blowing and if you click on the photos, you can see the palm trees swaying.
