Clouds over Bryce Canyon~SkyWatch Friday, July 31, 2009

These clouds were over Bryce Canyon the last time we visited there. I like the contrast of the blue sky with the canyon rocks. SkyWatch Friday for July 31, 2009. Enjoy your weekend!

Where we WON'T be going....(sigh)...

Our vacation had to be cancelled. Somebody "compromised" hubby's debit card and unlawfully charged $500 in two hours. So, our vacation funds are gone until Citibank reverses the charges, which will take 10 DAYS! WHAT???
(shaking head)
Anyway, this is where we WON'T be going (sigh...)

Utah lake~~Watery Wednesday for July 29, 2009

We found this pretty lake at the end of the road above Zion, in Utah. It was late afternoon when we arrived. We went back the next day and hiked around a little bit. Watery Wednesday for July 29, 2009.

Utah vacation~That's My World for 072809

Hubby and I are heading back to Utah as soon as he can schedule some days off. We love staying in St. George and then taking day trips. This was one day trip we took in 2006. It will be a nice break from our desert heat! That's My World (vacation world) for July 28, 2009.

Be afraid, be VERY afraid!! Mellow Yellow for 072709

You know how you see those yellow signs advising you of deer, elk, cows, Amish carriages? Well, we spotted this one outside of Prescott, AZ. Scary, huh? Very...
This sign reminds me of the time hubby and I were walking very early one morning out on the Mogollon Rim. We were "armed" only with our cameras. We had been walking very quietly, trying to spot wildlife. As we walked further and further away from civilization, he suddenly grabbed my arm and said, "Don't move!" HUH? What? "Something is watching us!" I asked him, "How do you know?" to which he replied, "Because the hairs on the back of my neck are up!" Now, this is the man whose German grandfather led him out into the woods of Pennsylvania many times as a child and taught him the ways of the woods. He promptly told me to get as TALL as I could, and we turned around and WALKED back out of the woods to safety. Once we got to the car, he told me he thought we were being stalked by a mountain lion. Here in California, these lions have killed several people in the Cleveland National Forest, which is only about 20 miles from where I board my horses. YES. ADULT HUMANS. I know of at least two adult female joggers who were attacked and killed by them. So, when you see that sign, be warned. You do NOT hear them and they attack from behind. I look at my housecats with different eyes now and I watched one of them yesterday, hiding in the tall grass, stalking the birds that come to our feeders. Mellow Yellow for Monday, July 27, 2009.

Toys, Arizona style~Sunday Stills Challenge 072609

Whenever we drive to Arizona, we always stop in the little town of Williams. Williams is on the entryway to the Grand Canyon and is about 64 miles from the entrance to the South Rim. Some people stay in Williams and take the train to the Grand Canyon, but we've never done that. We DO enjoy wandering around the little town and we have a favorite shop there. We always stop and buy something. Can you see why? There are so many beautiful things to see and admire! We always buy our daughter another cross for her living room wall collection. Enjoy the tour! Toys for adults, Arizona-style! Sunday Stills Challenge for July 26, 2009.

Navajo sheep near Shiprock

This herd of Navajo sheep was on the road from Canyon de Chelly, past Shiprock, on the way to Monument Valley. That's Shiprock from the road. We couldn't get any closer to it even with our telephoto lens. It is a magnificent volcanic shute rising from the desert floor, sacred to the Navajo. Very impressive.

When hubby and I traveled to Monument Valley last summer, these thunderheads developed. Aren't they pretty against the vivid colors of the rocks? SkyWatch Friday for July 24, 2009.

A is for Arizona, ABC Wednesday, July 22, 2009

A is for Arizona! We love to travel to our neighboring state. It is only 4 hours to Phoenix, then another hour up to Prescott, and then maybe 2 hours to Flagstaff. From Flagstaff, it is a day's drive up to Monument Valley and another day to Canyon de Chelly. Arizona has so many varied regions, from the mountains to the desert. Sunset Crater and volcano is also unique...the lava flows contrast with the aspens that grow out of them. And Flagstaff's San Francisco Peaks are spectacular! Enjoy this tour of Arizona. ABC Wednesday for July 22, 2009.
