A splash of yellow~Today's Flowers~033113
These yellow flowers are blooming all over the desert right now...don't know the name of the shrub, but they line the freeway exits and golf club resort walkways. Desert fence~Friday's Fences~032913
Living in the desert, during spring and fall, is always an adventure. Those are the times of windy afternoons and nights. And sometimes the sand builds up and overcomes fences and roads. I like to drive out this road and check out the fences because I'm never really sure if they will be there or not! Friday's Fences for March 29, 2013. Joshua tree blossoms
I went on a field trip with my third graders to Joshua Tree national park today. Actually, don't shudder...they were WELL behaved, except on the bus ride back to school. Even the park ranger complimented us! :-) However, a couple of boys decided to scream and jump seats on the bus ride back (one's FATHER was just sitting there!!!! :-( so I got up and yelled, "Would _____'s father PLEASE get him to sit down!"... I mean, what kind of parent lets their kid jump from seat to seat on a school bus? (...insert eye roll...) But, the park and town of Joshua Tree were FILLED with the blossoms of the joshua trees. It was beautiful. I have all next week off school and I plan on returning and spending a day at the park BY MYSELF (with some peace and quiet!)

Pioneertown~SkyWatch Friday~030813
We drove up through Pioneertown a couple of weekends ago after leaving Joshua Tree national park. There was a huge fire through this area a few years ago, as you can tell from this dead joshua tree. There are many, many trees like this one along the road. It's sad to see and I remember seeing signs in the town that stated "Flooding due to fire". I hope the area grows back soon. Pipes Canyon is also here and it is a beautiful spot to visit, too. SkyWatch Friday for March 8, 2013. To visit SkyWatch Friday, please go to: http://skyley.blogspot.com/ UPDATE*** Someone asked how this fire started. It started during a thunderstorm one summer by a lightning strike. It was NOT caused by humans. Just one of the results of our summer monsoon thunderstorms.****
