Hide & seek! Sunday October 26, 2008

The Living Desert Reserve has a herd of about 7 or 8 bighorn sheep. Sometimes they are up on top of their hill and easy to spot. Other times, they blend in very well with the rocks which are their surroundings! The Bighorn Institute is in Palm Desert, CA and at their last count, I believe there were 800 bighorn sheep in California and Baja California. Nine of them have been killed in the last few years by cars.

I remember when they used to come down the mountains in Rancho Mirage and graze at the Desert View Animal Hospital, which was right by a corner of Highway 111. Nowadays, nope. Some HAVE been sighted at the Ritz-Carlton, also in Rancho Mirage. They come down and eat the grass and nibble on hibiscus!

Anyway, see if you can find these bighorn sheep in this photo which we took at the Living Desert! Have fun!

I found them! Aren't they beautiful! I see there is a fence in front of them, if I'm correct. Is that to keep them from coming down to the road?

What beautiful animals : )
