Cottonwoods~Round Robin Challenge and Photo Challenge~March 20, 2011

On our way home from Prescott and the Grand Canyon last weekend, we drove down Highway 89 through Peeple's Valley. There is a huge, flat valley there with cottonwoods. We stopped underneath these trees. They look bare, but if you double click on the photos to enlarge them, you can see the left buds just barely opening. They were filled with bees, who were busy at work and buzzing away! They are indeed between winter and spring! Round Robin Challenge for March 20, 2011 and . Hi, Cheryl Ann! You were a week early, but that's okay. I love your cottonwoods pics! Just today I heard something from NPR about a part in Northern AZ where ancestors of the Hopi lived before moving onto the mesas. There wasn't enough wood from the local cottonwoods for all their needs, but floods used to carry driftwood to them down the Little Colorado River. Thanks for participating!

Pretty trees! You're right---the new little buds place them right at the in-between spot!
