Pioneertown~SkyWatch Friday~030813

We drove up through Pioneertown a couple of weekends ago after leaving Joshua Tree national park.  There was a huge fire through this area a few years ago, as you can tell from this dead joshua tree.  There are many, many trees like this one along the road.  It's sad to see and I remember seeing signs in the town that stated "Flooding due to fire".  I hope the area grows back soon.  Pipes Canyon is also here and it is a beautiful spot to visit, too.  SkyWatch Friday for March 8, 2013.   To visit SkyWatch Friday, please go to:   http://skyley.blogspot.com/   UPDATE*** Someone asked how this fire started.  It started during a thunderstorm one summer by a lightning strike.  It was NOT caused by humans.  Just one of the results of our summer monsoon thunderstorms.****

Hi Cheryl
Great shot of the yucca, I am hoping to visit this area in the next couple months before it gets to hot. I just read your profile and a horse lover too. Okay i'm off to check out your blog now. Have a great weekend and HSW

I saw Joshua Tree forest on a trip from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon. It was totally awesome. Too bad fires come along and ruin things.

However, this image is a reminder to us to be careful with our matches and campfires etc.
