Be afraid, be VERY afraid!! Mellow Yellow for 072709

You know how you see those yellow signs advising you of deer, elk, cows, Amish carriages? Well, we spotted this one outside of Prescott, AZ. Scary, huh? Very...
This sign reminds me of the time hubby and I were walking very early one morning out on the Mogollon Rim. We were "armed" only with our cameras. We had been walking very quietly, trying to spot wildlife. As we walked further and further away from civilization, he suddenly grabbed my arm and said, "Don't move!" HUH? What? "Something is watching us!" I asked him, "How do you know?" to which he replied, "Because the hairs on the back of my neck are up!" Now, this is the man whose German grandfather led him out into the woods of Pennsylvania many times as a child and taught him the ways of the woods. He promptly told me to get as TALL as I could, and we turned around and WALKED back out of the woods to safety. Once we got to the car, he told me he thought we were being stalked by a mountain lion. Here in California, these lions have killed several people in the Cleveland National Forest, which is only about 20 miles from where I board my horses. YES. ADULT HUMANS. I know of at least two adult female joggers who were attacked and killed by them. So, when you see that sign, be warned. You do NOT hear them and they attack from behind. I look at my housecats with different eyes now and I watched one of them yesterday, hiding in the tall grass, stalking the birds that come to our feeders. Mellow Yellow for Monday, July 27, 2009.

yes,I've seen the jogger case you mentioned on tv and I know that those signs are there for a reason.
Thanks for sharing.

I've read that they're putting such signs around the wilderness errors here in Southern California and find it worrisome to walk with just my camera these days.
Hugs and blessings,

Very compelling post. And a good one for hikers. Patty, my wife of 54 years and I, with our kids then, were doing the same thing in Glacier Park and we were way out there and decided to come back. And afterwards we heard on the radio the bears had killed two campers in their sleeping bags in the same area where we were.I didn't know anything about Mellow Yellow until today. Maybe I can join in next week.

I hope you can take the time to stop by my Pick a Peck of Pixels blog and make me and you some history. I still think I can reach that mystical goal of 10,000 visitors in a short period of time and with you being a Follower or stopping and leaving a comment there, I know I will make it and we'll make history together.
