Cottonwoods, Snow, and Mountains~SkyWatch Friday 121109

Last weekend I went out for a drive, to the area with the large cottonwoods. Sometimes the longhorns are out there, but I didn't see them this trip. It was snowing on and off in these mountains, but the clouds opened up just long enough for me to get a peek at the snow on them. Then, they closed in on the mountains and I drove home. I love the second one with the tree in the foreground.

You have achieved wonderful clarity and atmosphere in the short time allowed by the weather, Cheryl. I think I prefer the first shot mainly because of the composition. The tree just dangling in one corner and the sweep of the road, just so.

Lovely lighting and such perseverance to get the shot you wanted. I like this.

Lovely shots--very reminiscent of my home desert north of you (Owens Valley). My grandfather ran a power plant on the Owens River at a spot called Cottonwood and I've loved their aspeny scent ever since. One can practically smell it emanating from your photos.

There is also nothing in this world like a desert sky.
