Here are some pics of the Grand Canyon, south rim. The Colorado River can be seen in the bottom pic. Yes, it is actually RED! Colorado in Spanish means "red". You can see why it got its name! You can see some of the rapids in the middle photo! I think my husband actually took these, since he has the telephoto lens! It's hard to say because we are usually both standing in the same place at the same time taking photos!
You have to park your car now and take a tram along the edge of the Grand Canyon. Years ago (eh, hem...like 30...) you could just drive your car all along the rim. NO MORE! With pollution and traffic, there are now large parking lots for you to park your car. Then you have to walk up to the tram starting stop and hitch a ride on their almost every 10 minutes trams. You can get on and off wherever you want! The trams take you all the way out to the last canyon overlook where you can get drinks and food. Then, hop another tram for the trip back. The GC is VERY crowded now! Get there EARLY in the morning or late afternoon. We got there about 10:00 a.m. and the light wasn't that good. If you go in the summer, expect afternoon monsoon rains and dress accordingly! Of course, DUH, we ALWAYS go in the summer! The summer thunderstorms are really neat, however, and we always enjoy them! We stayed in Williams and drove over to the Grand Canyon.
Enjoy! I have TONS of other photos, but didn't want to post all of them. I'm thinking about doing a YouTube video with them. I currently have 10 YouTube videos at...DUH...of course...deserthorses5.
