North rim of the Grand Canyon, summer 06

These photos are of the NORTH rim of the Grand Canyon! The north rim is very different from the south rim. In fact, there are two distinct squirrel species that have evolved on the two rims from a common ancestor! The north rim, I think, gives you a much closer view of the Colorado River. You can actually see it from several viewpoints. Also, there is only the one hotel there. No shuttle service is available, either! The north rim is quieter and has less traffic. Additionally, the forests leading up to the north rim are vast and lush and beautiful, although we did see a large burned-out area on our way in and out. It is very serene here.
