deserted red ranch~~Palm Desert, CA

I've lived in our home in the desert now for over 30 years and I NEVER saw this red ranch house until this week! I caught it out of the corner of my eye as I was driving to school early one morning. It sits right off the next offramp from the one I take to work. Imagine driving by this for 30+ years and NEVER seeing it! So, after school that day, I stopped by and took my little pocket-sized Nikon and went exploring! Think of the stories it could tell! It's so sad to see it empty, deserted, and unloved! The swimming pool was full of debris, the front door was wide open, and the sliding doors too. Some guy from the water district appeared while I was there and went outside to read the meter. I noticed that he went inside and wandered around, but I didn't wish to do that alone! Maybe I'll take hubby with me this weekend and investigate it further. Hey, Linnea...does this count as a barn? I guess not! Oh, well...I'll keep looking for "barns in the desert" (my new hobby!) It was just so sad to see it neglected. I bet in its prime, it was a beautiful place!

It sure does have a barn look to it. I can't believe the door's wide open. Yes, take hubby with you if you explore further. These are fascinating pictures. I can just imagine the house in it's heyday.

Hey, it's red and white - when those two colors appear on buildings, I always think of barns. Interesting place to explore and you took some great shots. I wonder whom it belongs to and what the story behind it is. You'll have to check out the inside next time. God only knows what you'll find inside! I found some barns this afternoon. I'm still on the hunt, so when I get a good collection of them, I'll post them. Thanks for sharing these...

That is a great place! I love the history as well as the house and I bet that place has a great history.
