Sunflower and caterpillar~~Mellow Yellow for Monday, March 23, 2009

I've posted about my sunflowers on a couple of my other blogs, but I haven't done a post here yet. I planted them back in early January, since we were having such a mild winter. I figured, "Why not?" I had a large, bare spot out in front of our fence between it and the street. We used to have an eucalyptus tree there, but about this time last year, it fell over after 30 years! It hit our fence, but, fortunately only took about about 6 feet of fence, which our son repaired. So, I had this huge empty spot. I knew that the sunflowers would LOVE the full sun and the heat from the fence and they grew rapidly. Here are some of the pics of my sunflowers and the first one to open! Mellow Yellow for Monday, March 22, 2009.

I love sunflowers and usually plant a whole bunch of them along my driveway.
Can't this year though, we moved to a townhouse, but I'll have some on my deck. :-)

Beautiful sunflower pictures. I can't believe how big the leaves are. Indeed that was a nice fast way to fill in a bare spot against your fence.

The one time I grew sunflowers, some marauding wild beastie got to them before I could (probably squirrels???)

Planting sunflowers in January, I'm jealous!! I love sunflowers and always plant a large patch of them every year. Actually they are about the only thing my brown thumb is able to grow because half of them are volunteers which seem to do better than the ones I plant. Thanks for sharing and letting us enjoy your garden spot!

How lovely....I love sunflowers. Poppi and I have just planted some in the greenhouse and they have just popped through the soil. It will be a long time before they are as tall as yours......
